Vetti Kamatchi Thirukkural.Tamil Amma Magan Kama Kathaigal. தம்பெ தே சு Thirukkural. It is one of the most popular Tamil literature in India and around the world, especially among Tamil Muslims, who are referred to as "Naidus". The story is of a hunter who comes across a pregnant woman in his chase of deer and whom he helps deliver her baby boy by giving him water mixed with ghee (clarified butter). Some people believe the story to be a folk tale or a fable, while others consider it to be a historical legend based on an actual event. In recent times, many Tamil films have been made based on the story, with some calling it "Naadodi Kural" ("The wandering couplets"). Once upon a time there lived a king named "Sambuvarayar" ruling over the country of Puhar. He was married to princess "Valli", who served him faithfully and loyally. King Sambuvarayar had a Minister, who was loyal and honest to his master and ruled over Puhar in his name. The king's subjects too were happy and contented, and they wished their king and his Minister a long life. But one day, the King was out hunting in the forest, with his soldiers and Ministers. They saw a big herd of deer pass by them. The Chief Minister said that they should capture some of them for the King's pleasure. The soldiers took up their positions around the herd of deer to capture them alive. Meanwhile, one of the soldiers saw a young deer trying to break out of the encirclement and give warning to its fellow-deer by giving loud calls (like horns). He shot an arrow at it and pierced it through its heart, killing it instantly on the spot. The deer fell dead with its legs twitching, and the soldier came forward to collect his reward. He opened the deer's belly and found a beautiful lady inside. At first he thought that she was a deer goddess who had come to grant him power, wealth and riches. He was surprised when she started speaking to him, asking for water which would rid her of her pain. She told him that she had given birth to a baby boy who was now lying fast asleep in the forest, though the contraction pains were killing her. She beseeched the soldier not to take any action against the calf for fear that it would be hurt by other soldiers who were coming behind him. He was at a loss what to do, and said that he would take her to the nearby lake. He brought her to the bank of a nearby lake and asked her to drink some water so that she would get rid of her pains. She drank the water and soon recovered from the pains. The soldier asked whether she had given birth to a boy or a girl. She replied that she had delivered a boy, who was fast asleep in the forest. The soldier thought that it would be safer if he went and got him and bring him back into camp with him. cfa1e77820
