If you make your way to see it in theaters, you'll be entertained by the visual effects of the witch hunters and witches alike. It's definitely worth seeing on the big screen. The film doesn't even need any supernatural elements (and thus works great as a straightforward action movie) because the mere presence of witches alone is terrifying enough. The witches and their powers are done right, and the carnage they commit upon humans is picture perfect. Stallone, as usual, gives a good performance as Kaulder. He's clearly not the action hero he used to be (he isn't as chiseled as he was in his 'Rocky' days), but Stallone still has the charisma and the screen presence that made him famous. The rest of the supporting cast is decent, especially Chandler who transforms into a witch that looks like she came straight out of a Japanese horror movie. The only real person who's underwhelming is the female lead. The film is not without flaws. There are plenty of these, but the biggest complaint I have is with the pacing. The film was stretched out to two hours and 15 minutes which given that it's an action movie about monsters, I can see why there would be some padding. The film stretches out certain key scenes by introducing unnecessary characters or forgoing action for more talky scenes where they just go into small details or explaining things that really don't need to be asked about. Instead of spending time killing witches, the film spends its time with these people who want to help Ásta understand what she's doing and why she does it. A few scenes that felt like they were just there for the sake of adding length, and that's a shame. If you don't think the film is going that fast, then you'll be surprised to learn that it's been two hours long.
